NYSC announces rescue of one abducted corps member

The management of the National Youth Service Corps says it has secured the release of one of the seven female prospective corps members abducted in Zamfara. This was made known in a press statement signed by NYSC Spokesperson Eddy Megwa on Saturday. According to the statement, the said female corps member was rescued on Friday night at 12:30 p.m. “through the help of security agencies”, while expressing optimism that the rest of the abducted corps will be released. The statement partly reads, “Management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to convey to the general public that the scheme, through the help of security agencies on Friday, 20th October, 2023 at about 12.30 pm secured the release of one of the female Prospective Corps Members abducted in Zamfara, out of the seven in captivity and the bus driver. “The scheme is confident that with the combined efforts of security agencies, the remaining will be released”. The West African Examinations Council on Monday, appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, as the Head of the Nigeria National Office. Dangut succeeds Patrick Areghan, whose tenure ends this month. Here are a few things you should know about Dangut: 1. Dangut was born on October 2, 1967, in Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State. 2. He attended Government Secondary School, Riyom from 1981 to 1983 and Government Science School, Kuru (1983 to 1986), where he obtained his WASC/SC in 1986), both in Plateau State. 3. The West African Examinations Council has appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, as the Head of the Nigeria National Office. Dangut succeeds Patrick Areghan, whose tenure ends this month. A statement by WAEC made available to The PUNCH on Monday revealed that Dangut, until his appointment was the Deputy Registrar/HNO’s office. The statement stated that he joined the service of WAEC in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar in April 2018. He won the Nigeria Examinations Committee’s commendation for transparent conduct of examination between 2000 and 2006.
